T20 World Cup Super 8s Match 1,2: New Zealand vs Ireland, South Africa vs England

In Uncategorized on June 12, 2009 at 11:48 am

Well a very late post i guess, considering match 3 of Super 8 is is just about to start. New Zealand beat Ireland very comfortably. I saw England bat and was too bored, its T20 but the way they batted, gosh. South Africans are the best fielding side in this T20 world cup i guess, Sri Lanka is a close second. South Africa beat England handsomely. Kallis and Gibbs played well, however they stretched it to the 19th over to win. To sum it up, a very boring start to Super 8s.

Todays matches: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, India vs West Indies

Hope India wins this one, they are yet to face a good competitor in the tournament.

T20 World Cup Match 11,12: West Indies vs Sri Lanka, India vs Ireland

With the groups for Super 8s almost fixed, the last two matches of T20 world cup league did not have much significance, unless of course India decided to lose to Ireland and get into the easier group. I don’t think teams play matches that way :) , every one wants to keep winning because just as winning is a habit, losing too is a bad habit, ask the aussies :) .

Sri Lanka is back on fire with Jaisuriya playing an amazing innings against the West Indies (WI). Sri Lanka are looking good to win this cup now i think, their bowling fielding and batting is peaking at just the right time. WI played well to reach very close to the target, this ensured they do not go into Super 8 with a demoralising loss.

India vs Ireland was way too boring, wasted my time watching it. Indians were way too cautious i thought in their run chase. Big hitting just didn’t happen. Dhoni continues to struggle with his form, i think it will help him if he bats lower down the order and allows Suresh Raina to play at his usual no. 3.

Super 8s group are as follows now

Group E:India, West Indies, South Africa, England
Group F:Pakistan, Ireland, Sri Lanka, New Zealand

Lets hope to see an India Pakistan semi-final, that would be some clash to watch :)

T20 World cup match 7,8:Ireland vs Bangladesh, Australia vs Srilanka

Should i call it a day of upsets, mmm not really i guess. Ireland beating Bangladesh may be termed as an upset, but Srilanka beating OZ is no more an upset. It however ensured that the Oz are now kicked out of the tournament. Nothing is going right for the Oz these days, racial abuse, then Symonds going back, seems like they will have a tough time in the upcoming Ashes series too.

The first match between Ireland and Bangladesh was good to watch as Ireland made a good run chase and defeated Bangladesh. Bangladesh did not play as well as they did against India. The Brian brothers (Nial and Kevin) batted really well. When Kevin said his favourite player was Andrew Flintoff, i wasn’t amazed, seems like he has modelled himself on him completely, right from the tall built to the way he hits sixes with ease. I am loving the upsets in this T20 world cup (as long as India reaches finals without any drama i’m fine). Bangladesh i thought was over confident about defeating the Irish side which is being coached by Phil Simmons (for those who can’t recall, he’s the West Indian who has managed to torment India in his hey days, read only India and no other team :P .Some cricketers always have to pick up India to return to form).
