The opening of T20 world cup didn’ go through as expected. Rain spoiled the opening ceremony and due to loss of time, the opening ceremony act was canceled. I feel sad for all the performers who must have put in hours just for this day only to see the weather snatch their chance to perform on the big stage, at Lords.
Netherlands won the toss and decided to field first. They did well to restrict England to 162/5. I don’t think England with a score of 162 on board would have thought that they will lose this one.I liked the way the new guy Luke Wright bats and bowls (I’m lucky to have him in my team of indianfantasyleague ;)). He scored 71(49) and Ravi Bopara scored 46(34). When these two were batting it looked like England can easily score well over 200 runs, but Netherlands did well to restrict them.
England bowled poorly, and Netherlands made the most of it. The opening stand of Netherlands was not that impressive and the lost Kervezee early. I like the way Reekers batted, he’s a guy from New Zealand who has settled in Netherlands. He reminds of Mark Greatbatch with his build, hefty tall guy. He bats right handed though, and i loved to see him hit sixes. Oh, by the way for records, England could not hit a single six during their innings. The MOM de Grooth really batted sensibly. He has all the T20 shots a batsman should have, and if he keeps batting the way he is, Netherlands might as well end up leading their group.
